Week 5: A Proposal, An Italian and an Ode to Winners

Westwood boarders were able to enjoy some reprieve from the week's academic and sporting challenges by focussing minds and hearts on the forthcoming feast of St. Valentine. Though shrouded in  myth and legend, at the heart of the celebration on 14th February is love, togetherness and a sense of celebration. As a prelude to the 14th, Saturday evening began with boarders enjoying the romantic comedy The Proposal.

Sunday continued the theme of love, togetherness and celebration by the coming together of all Westwood boarders to home-make their own Italian meal for lunch. With a willing team, spanning responsibilities from Head Chefs to Kitchen Hands, everybody played their part in an exciting and rewarding initiative to cook for each other and enjoy each other's company. The photos below provide you with an overview of all that this entailed:

This evening our boarders attended a scheduled meeting in Kingswood's Theatre for the whole boarding community. Herein, we celebrated the giving of the Wyvern awards; an accolade bestowed upon those who have given themselves selflessly to the boarding community and set an example for others to follow. Monica and Freddie were worthy recipients on this occasion. Lala, Angel and Ryan were also worthy winners of Westwood's entries for the whole school's Bake-off competition last week. Naturally, we extend our congratulations to all winners from the Junior and Senior Houses who produced a wonderful array of cakes! So, as we enter our final week prior to half-term, we are grateful for the opportunity to have come together in that spirit of love, togetherness and celebration this weekend. We hope you enjoyed this week's offering and look forward to updating you again soon.

Week 4: Snow Day, Snowy Weekend and Bake-Off

Despite the lack of lessons, Westwood boarders still had a lot of fun in the snow on Friday - sledging, snowballing and Igloo building. There were chances to bake, too, as well as competitive games of bench-ball and five-aside football. Those who needed warmth also took a dip in the school pool. A number of films have also been enjoyed over the weekend - Spiderman Homecoming and the Duff. Others have watched the opening Six Nations fixtures. Several weekly and casual boarders could not get home..so had to stay a extra night or two, but no one seemed to mind!

Five groups have entered the Boarders' Bake-Off - this year's entries include a popcorn cake (Katya and Eleanor), a pizza cake (Max and Lauren), an ice cream cake (Angel, Lala and Ryan, an Oreo cake (Charlotte and Sophia) and a Noodle cake (Praeasha, Monica, Sarafina & Tsering). Judging takes place today with  results next week. The ovens have been much of the last 48 hours and some projects have taken 3-4 hours to complete - impressive concentration and stamina!

As the snow started to melt an amazing army of volunteers from the boarding community helped to shift the snow so school can functon fully tomorrow. The team spirit in the camp has been high, but we are looking forward to 'normal school' tomorrow.
