Lots of sport and a visit to Bristol Zoo

With U12 A, B and C and U13 A, B and C rugby matches against Bristol Grammar School yesterday morning the vast majority of the boys were out taking part. Vic and Kenneth scored on their debuts for the school; all the U12 teams won and Wilfrid was praised for his tackling by the other boys. The U13 teams had tougher fixtures, but Sunichi, Karan, Dario, Nino and Tae-Tae came back with smiles despite the losses! We had day pupil, Rufus, boarding with us and he too was involved in the rugby and many matches of table tennis and pool this weekend. Elouise and Rachel both enjoyed playing hockey for the U13B and U12B teams respectively and both teams recorded great wins ! Our prefects yesterday were Anan (a former WW boarder) and Neve who did a great job getting the pupils around town. All the pupils and Mrs Mainwaring had a very successful shopping trips. The Just Dance game on the Wii was very popular!

After some football, basketball and brunch we headed to Bristol Zoo and the weather remained kind. We saw an amazing rainbow on the way to Bristol. The pupils enjoyed seeing the mammals, reptiles, birds and fish on view. There was a talk about Raccoons and their skills at stealing laundry to keep them warm in the winter. Mink and Polina took to the high ropes under the watchful eye of Rose, Mrs Mainwaring and Mr Duke; other pupils devoured ice cream. Tonight our very helpful prefects were Archie and Izzy. Some pupils went swimming after quiet hour.

Mrs Mainwaring and Mr Duke have really enjoyed the company of all the Westwood boarders this weekend. The atmosphere in the House is fantastic and the pupils are getting on with each other very well! We are privileged to live here!

Westwood House Rocks!

It is lovely to have all the pupils back in Westwood. There are many new faces in Year 8 and Year 7. The new boarders are adapting well to life at Kingswood School and in this friendly House. It is amazing despite the distance some pupils have travelled to reach us how soon they feel at home. We are delighted to welcome Isabella, Perry, Sasha, Vic, Kenneth,  Thomas, Robert, Wilf, Tae-Tae, Mink,  Dario, Yuma, Hannah, Rachel, Sophie, Colby, Ishika, Ningwa and Nino; they have been really positive since their arrival and are throwing themselves into Kingswood life.  These pupils come from China, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Mexico, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and the UK, which creates a really global feel to the community! We also have Miss Thomas, the new German Assistant, helping out at the weekend sometimes.  Within hours of her arrival we were all enjoying the bread-sticks and biscuits she made with Kenneth!

Our prefects this weekend have been Jasper, Yemi, Laura and Jamie, who have been very helpful. The boarders went into town yesterday afternoon and had a steep climb back up the hill because the buses were not running. Last night's film was Pan and this was enjoyed with an interval of Pizza.

Today a good number of pupils played basketball before brunch and then we headed off to Bowood House and Park (about 30 minutes from Bath) for an afternoon walk, the adventure playground and invariably an ice cream given the sunshine.  The pupils enjoyed the high ropes, slides and swings!

We have all enjoyed watching Dario's Rubik's Cube skills.

Some pupils swam tonight before we celebrated Thomas's birthday with an amazing Top Gear designed cake from home; it was yummy! What a great first weekend of the new academic year!
