Week 4: Party in the Park

Following an expectantly busy working week, our boarders embraced the full array of sporting fixtures this weekend and eventually settled down to some 'down-time' on Saturday afternoon and evening. The allure of Bath city often provides boarders with a chance to replenish tuck supplies and enjoy the architectural beauty of a World Heritage Site; a pivilege indeed! Saturday evening's movie night was enjoyed by all. Pizza and Popcorn provided culinary reprieve from the high-octane action film: Rampage!

To a large extent, the high-octane theme continued on Sunday as boarders travelled to Thorpe Park: An island of theme-park pleasure! Boarders enjoyed time with friends and experienced a range of rides that proved scary and exhilirating in equal repose:

A lovely skyscape to welcome us all...
...enjoyed all the more with the lovely company of Miss Rolfe and Mrs. Curtis!

A mid-afternoon snapshot of Sophia, Charlotte, Supriya, Monica, Sarafina and Kim enjoying themselves.

Our boarders weren't the only ones embracing the Thorpe Park spirit; below we can see Miss Rolfe and Mr. Peerless (Carriage 4) daring to meet the challenge of 'Stealth':

And here we see Max attempting to navigate a tricky rope ladder challenge (the lengths one would go to for a soft toy!).

Our boarders had a very enjoyable day; an opportunity to purge the trials of the week and simply be together. We are grateful for the support of staff this weekend and for the boarder's excellent behaviour throughout. It is on this positive note that we bring this week to a close and look forward to the week ahead. We wish our readers well and look forward to our next entry soon.

Roller Disco Extravaganza!

Saturday morning's inclement weather gave  an opportunity for Lala, Praeasha and Tsering to sharpen their commercial nous with a game of Monopoly, whilst others (Supriya, Sarafina, Angel, Monica, and Kimberley) baked White Chocolate Chip Cookies for the House and the James, Ivan, Unnav, Charlotte and Kimberley enjoyed the rugby and hockey in the pouring rain in Bristol and Bruton respectively!
Tsering, Praeasha and Lala competing over property!
Frozen hits were performed by Jacqueline and Sarah.
The bakers in Mrs Duke's hands
Angel ensuring she has just the right amount of cookie dough.
 Good work, Sarafina and Supriya!
Angel and Monica show their wares!

 Looking good!

 They can't be that, bad!

The cookies on show here were enjoyed by the House when watching the slapstick, Johnny English Reborn chosen by the Year 8 boys. It went down a storm, as did the cookies and pizza.

We've gotta DJ in the House! Westwood boarders enjoyed a roller disco in the Sports Hall this afternoon. There maybe some sore bodies tomorrow after lots of activity and a few tumbles. Having got general stability sorted, there was an opportunity for  a few races and games. The pictures and short video clips paint a positive picture. Jacqueline and Sudipti braved the elements on the Year 8 Hike and got wet, but enjoyed wonderful views during the dry spells.

This is a rare photo of Supriya not on the floor. Fortunately all the pupils had knee pads and the sports hall floor was quite forgiving.
 What concentration from Marco!

 Keep your feet, Lala!

  Sarah keeping upright.

 Well done Suruchi.

 Go, Angel!

 Keep your balance, Sarafina!

Camera woman, Kezzy, took these pics and videos - good job!

There was a sassy dance off at the end - Monica and Lala were in their element!
 It was a great afternoon!

Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, Friday 21 September

The Westwood boarding family came together to enjoy an authentic Chinese meal to coincide with the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival which according to https://www.chinahighlights.com/festivals/mid-autumn-festival-date.htm is mid-through the Third Season in the Chinese Calendar. The third lunar season "autumn" is months 7–9.As the four seasons each have three (29 or 30 day) months on China's traditional calendars, day 15 of month 8 is "the middle of autumn".
All the boarders and Westwood resident families plus prefects came together to enjoy a delicious meal with mountains of prawn crackers, rice, sweet and sour chicken and a vegetable dish. Dessert was less authentic and did not come from the East, but from the cows in Marshfield whose milk is turned into wonderful ice cream!

We feel as a globally diverse house that it is important to experience the culture of different nations
The food gave some boarders wings!
 Friday Night feeling!

Monica gives it the thumbs up!
 Smiley Westwood boarders!
Chopstick abuse, Charlotte!
Many thanks to the Catering team at Kingswood for producing such a delicious repaste!
