Bowling at Hollywood Bowl Cribbs Causeway.

This weeks trip was to the Hollywood bowl at Cribbs Causeway.  For many this was their first taste of real ten pin bowling - and not the pretend versions which you can find on gaming machines.

Harry and the girls remain glued to the scoreboard.  Ritika seems focused elsewhere.

The girls keen to bowl without bumpers...not!

Charlie seems very pleased with his first round score of 103 to take an early lead over the others.  Cartoon seems less bothered.

Lulu and Lottie enjoy time on the amusements after the bowling.

Donald clutches tightly his Minion after winning it at the Maxx Grab game.  First time I have ever seen anyone win a prize at a crane grab game!!  Well done.

Tegan - relaxed as usual!!!
Charlie & Ritika with their medals.

This is an annual trip and we always have a prize for the winners - usually a small medal.

This year the best bowlers were Charlie with 103 and Ritika with 81 points.

Faschingskuchen with Frau Sydow

Westwood pupils have enjoyed the chance to bake typical German Faschingskuchen eaten at this time of the year across Germany in the run up to Lent. Mrs Sydow, a teacher from Hildesheim, has spent two weeks at Kingswood as a guest supported by the http://www.ukgermanconnection.org/professionals-parents programme. The recipe was in provided both languages for the Westwood pupils, who enjoyed all aspects of the baking, decorating and eating! The aroma in Westwood was very enticing!

House Music Fever grips Westwood!

The weather on Saturday sadly put pay to all sports matches for Westwood pupils. Some pupils baked some delicious fairy cakes with Mrs Mainwaring and Rose whilst some headed for basketball and table tennis with Mr Duke.  Oscar, Sunichi and Johnny have certainly improved these skills since arriving in Westwood. The film last night was Pixel and the homemade cakes were enjoyed then.

Today has been focused on each of the four houses practising their respective songs for the House Music Competition. Beckford is singing  Classic' by MKTO; Hamilton is singing 'Shake It Off' by Taylor Swift ; Cusworth has chosen 'Dancing in the Moonlight' by Toploader and Posnett the Bon Jovi classic 'Living on a Prayer'. The prefects have been working hard on carefully choreographed routines and shown great patience and levels of enthusiasm.  Tomorrow's competition will be judged independently by our wonderful three foreign language assistants as has been the tradition for as long as can be remembered.

The winning team will be presented with the coveted 'Westwood Bowl' given as a gift by a former Music teacher and Westwood stalwart, Mrs Monks. Watch this space for news on the winning house!

Tonight the whole boarding community came together to feedback on issues pertaining to boarders' trips, school food, sports activities etc. There was also a celebration of the Chinese New Year. The results of the recent Boarders' Bake Off were also announced and we all enjoyed short video clips from each house. The Westwood film was put together expertly by Polina. The Westwood Bake Off runner-up was Natalie and the Baking Queen was Ayooluwa. You will spot that Mr Chua and Mr Harding also performed Don McLean's classic, American Pie.

Bake - off weekend.

This weekend the children entered into the Kingswood School boarders bake-off.

Biscuits were made using boiled sweets as a glass window.  A very complicated design!!

Nat and Louise get to grips with the accurate measuring of the ingredients.  Vital to ensure that the pastry is not too short.  According to top Westwood judges Phil Hollywood and Mary Ceri.

Results to follow.
