Fajitas, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties

This weekend the WW sports teams were very successful against Colston's School, Bristol and well over half the House have been involved in Hockey, Netball and Orienteering. Sunday morning saw different groups of pupils involved in the preparation, execution and tidy up of a delicious Sunday lunch in Westwood. A menu of Fajitas with chicken, spicy sauce, tomatoes,  lettuce, cheese, sour cream and Neapolitan Ice Cream went down very well with every plate empty by the end. Sam and Joe orchestrated the seating plan  and we were each treated to Oreos and Starbursts as part of the table arrangement from the boys' tuck boxes! The post-meal exercise consisted of some basketball and bench ball, which was keenly contested.

Dinner tonight was an opportunity to remember Scotland's most famous bard (poet/lyricist) of the Eighteenth Century, Robert (or Robbie/Rabbie) Burns as we celebrated his 256th anniversary of his birth with poems, Haggis, Turnips and Potatoes (affectionately referred to as 'Haggis, Neeps and Tatties'), Bagpipe music and a ceilidh (Scottish Country Dancing) in the School Theatre. Some pupils had a go at playing the Bagpipes.  Burns wrote his poems in a Scots Dialect and those of Scottish origins all around the world will follow the same protocols with an Address to the Haggis prior to eating, the Selkirk Grace, Toasts to the Lasses and Laddies and a Praise of Scotland. Happy New Year from Westwood House!

Many pupils were involved in Netball and Hockey fixtures against KES and Clifton College yesterday. The girls had to contend with very blustery conditions and enjoyed some success.  The boys all won their matches convincingly. In the evening the whole house enjoyed the Saturday night DVD, Pompeii, which was well received. Sunday started with breakfast in the house. A good number of the boys went over to the Sports Hall to play Five-A-Side before heading to a delicious Brunch - a typical English Cooked Breakfast with fruit and yoghurt to balance the fried food!! The football was won by Ashish's team.

We went to see Cinderella Pantomine at the Royal Theatre in town this afternoon featuring some the actress, Dani Harmer, who played Tracy Beaker in the BBC series. http://theatreroyal.org.uk/page/3028/Cinderella/860

We all enjoyed an ice cream in the interval and a 'shout-out' to Kingswood School from 'Buttons'.
